We are recruiting a Risk Manager for a two Hospital For Profit Healthcare system located in Spokane, Washington. Will report to the Director of Risk Management. The Risk Manager is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and carrying out programs to control the clinical risks associated with patient care services .
Collaborates with patient advocates, infection prevention specialists and others to; prevent and mitigate patient harm and the associated potential professional liability exposure
Ensures regulatory compliance with respect to the management of adverse patient events and patient grievances and to assess and manage any event, activity or program that may involve significant risk of patient harm on a proactive or reactive basis.
Implements effective strategies to mitigate events associated with patient harm or to prevent patient harm by prospective consultation
Ensures compliance with federal and state laws related to clinical adverse events including TJC, DOH, CMS, OFM and FDA requirements.
Collaborate as needed with compliance officers regarding patient privacy complaints and bill waivers.
Liaisons with Patient Advocates, Quality Improvement staff, Medical Directors, Chief Nursing Officers, Claims Managers and health professionals to respond to patient grievances involving alleged patient harm related to quality of care or allegations of lack of informed consent.
Designs and implements educational programs on risk reduction measures and patient safety.
Works with Legal Services to identify any remedial measures needed following an adverse event that result in a lawsuit or claim.
Takes remedial measures identified system wide as appropriate, to help prevent similar situation from occurring again.
Participates on committees, task forces and in risk management education programs as assigned including preparation of materials for discussion at committee meetings such as the Board or Quality Committee.
Conducts clinical risk assessments to identify the potential for patient harm and to recommend strategies to mitigate them at the direction of the Quality Steering Committee.
Participates in the development of corrective action plans for problems uncovered by risk assessment and investigations (e.g., sentinel events, reported events/incidents, Root Cause Analysis
Ensures recommended improvements stemming from risk assessments, audits and investigations (e.g., sentinel events, reported events/incidents, Root Cause Analysis) have been implemented.
Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients. Access and use
the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.
Who Will Be a Great Fit?
Master's Degree in MPH, MBA, MPA, Nursing, and/or a Juris Doctorate degree is preferred
5+ years of experience managing professional liability events in a health care risk management setting and/or professional liability claims experience is preferred
3+ years of experience as a clinician and/or equivalent work experience in a health care setting is preferred
3+ years experience working with the public to resolve disputes or equivalent work experience is preferred
3+ years of experience developing and using databases to report information is preferred
3+ years of experience in risk management or the like required
Risk Management credentials, such as the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or certificate program in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) are preferred
