As a recruiter, I have spoken with thousands of job seekers. After listening to their stories and experiences, one thing became clear—there is a formula for success during an interview. It all comes down to preparation, confidence, and enthusiasm. Here’s what I learned about standing out from the rest of the crowd during your interview.

Be Prepared

You only get one chance to make a good first impression. That's why you should go into your interview knowing exactly what you'll say. Before going into the room, take some time to research the company, review the job description, and practice your answers to potential questions. Being prepared will help you feel more confident in yourself and your qualifications for the role.

Sell Yourself

If you want to stand out during an interview, it's important that you show off your unique skillset and qualifications. Talk about relevant work experience or projects you've completed that are related to this new position. If there are any areas where you need additional training or education, mention them too! The key is not just talking about yourself—you also want to demonstrate how these skills can be used in this new role if given the opportunity.

Show Your Enthusiasm

Personality matters when it comes to making a great impression at an interview. You want to show the interviewer that you're excited about this new opportunity and eager to learn more about it! Showing enthusiasm will make them remember you—and could even give you an edge over other applicants who may not have been as engaged during their interviews.

Follow Up After Your Interview 

One final step many job seekers overlook is following up after their interview has concluded. Following up after an interview is one of the easiest ways to demonstrate your interest in a role and stand out from other candidates; few people take this extra step! Sending a thank-you note or email within 24 hours of your meeting shows initiative. It lets hiring managers know you're still interested in pursuing the position even after leaving their office.  

Interviews can be nerve-wracking experiences, but they don't have to be if you come in well-prepared! If you do your research beforehand, confidently explain why you're qualified for this role, and show off your enthusiasm for the job then there's no doubt that employers will be impressed by your performance!
