As a lead member of the Integrations Architecture Team, bring business, health care, data modeling and process modeling expertise to both operational and data warehousing development efforts. As a lead and as an individual contributor, model, design, plan, construct and deploy software solutions – focusing on data structure primarily and on the processes that manage that data secondarily. Model and implement data structures which forward the architectural, business objective, scalability, flexibility and best practice interests of the client. Directly influence, approve and enforce architectural standards and soundness across all Integrations design efforts. Manage the project work of Technical Team Leads and Developers as required to deliver architecturally important solutions. The Principal Data Modeler is responsible for drafting business-driven data models at the conceptual and logical levels. The role also maintains data/process standards and contributes to critical process models. This individual will influence and oversee the work product of up to 20 developers as that work advances business objectives.

​PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Through a close working relationship with business, clinical, application, vendor and external medical standards partners, understand and internalize the company mission, objectives and industry direction. Along with Technology and Integrations Engineering leadership, collaborate with same to drive an IT data strategy/architecture that aligns with patient, clinical and business needs.  
  • Provide expert and proven data/process modeling services at the project level and above. Lead business and design teams in a data-driven methodology to design flexible, robust and highly effective operational data models to enable integrations. Ensure the proper balance of generalization, normalization and practicality for all integrations subjects. Collaborate closely with Integrations Engineering to guarantee that data models and process models are mutually validating at each level of detail.  
  • Work with Medical, Business and Infomatics leadership to jointly develop, maintain and deliver the Medical Intelligence strategy for the organization. Bring clinical information and ‘data warehousing’ background/expertise to the design of this critical information resource. Provide proven dimensional modeling skill to the structural design of the data resource. Bring deep understanding of star, multi-star and snowflake design patterns to clinical and financial infomatics data design. Work with Engineering leads to design robust, fault-tolerant ETL processes.
  • Maintain current and future data models in a common modeling tool such as ERWin. Ensure that both logical and physical representations of the models are managed accurately and made available to all interested parties. Define subjects, facets, entities and attributes as needed for business and technical purposes
  • Proactively pursue relationships with vendors and medical standards organizations so that data may be exchanged effectively with secure partners on behalf of our patients. Understand established and emerging standards, such as HL7 and the Reference Information Model, so that data exchanges benefit from both syntactic and semantic standardization.  
  • Lead joint delivery design sessions with business, vendor and technical partners. Use business scenario and use case techniques to drive out the 4 dimensions of architecture: work, information, application and technology. This role provides direct expertise in work and information architectures. Collaborate with Engineering partners to support the application and technology architecture definition.  
  • Bring recognized leadership in business process design and data model design to the approval of functional, ETL and technical design documents. Provide overall guidance and mentoring to design leads in their specifications.  
  • Work collaboratively with the DBA group to construct and manage optimized data structures. Provide guidance and leadership in the transition of the data model from logical to physical.  

​EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Minimum 10 years IT development experience focusing on modeling and structuring data.
  • Experience managing teams consisting of 10 or more technical developers.
  • Recognized expert in conceptual and logical data modeling in large-scale environments.
  • Expert in designing normalized, generalized operational (OLTP) data models.
  • Expert in designing multi-dimensional (OLAP) data models for use in decision support and data warehousing.
  • Expert in designing robust ETL processes according to best practices in complex environments.
  • Strong healthcare understanding and experience – especially around HL7 message constructs and the Reference information Model behind them.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with business, clinic, and technology audiences
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Strong consultative ability
  • Facilitation, presentation and coaching skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of software development lifecycle and methodologies spanning development, testing, release and deployment management.
